A House That Levitates Above the Waves: Arkup 75 in Miami

Imagine a luxurious, minimalist residence that drifts on the turquoise waters of the Miami coast, and in the event of a storm, simply rises into the air, escaping the ocean's elements. This is not a scene from a science fiction movie, but Arkup 75 – an avant-garde villa of a new era that redefines the concept of living on water.

Officially unveiled at the Miami Yacht Show in 2019, the structure is the result of a collaboration between Arkup and prominent Dutch architect Koen Olthuis of Waterstudio.NL. The designers have created a perfect hybrid: a so-called livable yacht, a fully-fledged 75-foot (about 23-meter) residential property that combines the mobility of a yacht with the static comfort of a modernist penthouse. The two spacious decks provide over 400 square meters of elegant space surrounded by large-format glazing.

However, the real engineering phenomenon lies beneath the water's surface. The villa is equipped with four massive 12-meter hydraulic stilts. When weather conditions become demanding or waves begin to rock the building, the columns rest on the seabed and smoothly lift the entire structure above the water surface. In this way, the floating home becomes a stable platform, prepared to withstand storm surges and devastating Category 4 hurricane winds reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h.

Arkup 75 is also a manifesto of absolute self-sufficiency. A 36 kW solar panel system has been installed on the roof, which, in cooperation with onboard power banks, guarantees complete independence in off-grid mode. The eco-friendly layout of the residence is complemented by an advanced rainwater collection and purification mechanism.

This zero-emission oasis of tranquility, priced between 5.5 and 5.9 million dollars in a fully furnished version, proves that climate change and rising water levels do not necessarily mean fleeing inland. The architecture of the future has been born in Miami, which, instead of fighting the waves, rises above them.
