Living in a Boeing 727 Fuselage: An Aviator's Dream in the Middle of a Forest

Bruce Campbell, a retired electrical engineer and aviation enthusiast, bought a decommissioned Boeing 727-200 that had once flown for Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis — the very same aircraft that carried his body back to Greece after his death. The plane was retired from Athens airport in 1999, and Campbell bought it directly, with no real estate agency or aircraft scrapper involved. Since it couldn't land on his property, the fuselage was disassembled and trucked through downtown Hillsboro, Oregon, then reassembled on his several-acre wooded lot. The cabin and cockpit together provide more than 1,000 square feet (about 99 square meters) of living space tucked away among the trees. For more than a decade, Campbell has lived inside his plane and given tours to visitors, championing the idea that retired airliners can find a second life as fully functional homes. It's an extreme but very real example that a truly unique property doesn't need a foundation or a broker — just courage, the right plot of land, and a direct deal at the source.
